In these COVID times we can’t do the travelling we would like to, so we had a virtual world tour during a quiz night to fund raise for Cahoots.

Cahoots are a not-for-profit community organisation who provide inclusive opportunities for young people with a disability to develop skills, friendship, and confidence.  They achieve this through providing inclusive camps and programs for these young people to develop skills and to challenge themselves by participating in activities that are safe.  The programs are supported by experienced facilitators who can offer an environment Centre that provides for holistic learning.

The quiz night was held at our Colin Moore Community Centre on a wet and windy evening at the end of   May.  Although we had prepared for the weather with tarps to keep the rain out and heaters to keep us warm; the wind got the better of us and the rain flooding one corner.   Some quick rearrangements were undertaken to keep everyone dry.
Cahoots staff, including Kaylee Nichols, did a wonderful job of helping with the planning and marketing of the event.  In total 60 people attended the event which were grouped into 10 tables of 6, each table representing a country such as Torres Strait, Puerto Rico, and the Azores.  Quiz master Damien kept the questions firing and tables representing Lithuania Madagascar and Columbia were fighting for the lead at each turn.

The fund raising was supported by a raffle and auctions both silent and live.  Many thanks to Alan Cockram who did a great job as auctioneer.  Thanks also to Roseanne Hoban, Louise Hancock, and Cahoots for the donation of prizes and auction items.

At the end of the evening Lithuania, represented by Chris Samios and his guests, were the overall winners, with Madagascar (Alan Cockram and his family) second and Columbia (Brian and Louise Hancock) were third.

It was a great evening with lots of fun, laughter and sharing. Our guests included Councillors Chris Hatton and Karlo Perkov from the City of Stirling.

We raised over $1,900 for Cahoots which will be used to provide scholarships for their camps and events for disadvantaged families   Chris Samios and Louise Hancock attended a formal cheque presentation with Kaylee Nichols and Kerryn Lambert for the cheque presentation.

We look forward to planning another fund raiser for Cahoots in 2022.
